Jim Says: I was reading The Australian one day, when a headline over an article caught my attention. The headline read: ‘Struggle town’s now pick of crop’. The article described how a once struggling region city was now making great advances in its development.
‘Struggle Town’, what a great title for a song thought I, and the above song is the result.
I kept trying for a third verse, but gave up as the results seemed forced and unconvincing. I’ve kept it short and to the point.

In Struggle Town there are tracks of blood,
Running up arms, across the mud.
They tell a tale of pain and grief,
Where life is short, and time a thief.

CHORUS
I want to tell you it’s a real hard sound,
When they drag those bodies across the ground.
But you don’t want to know what’s going down
In Struggle Town. Yes, in Struggle Town.

In Struggle Town there are kids and whores,
Selling their bodies outside your doors.
At seventeen they are already old,
Their arms are warm, but their hearts are cold.

CHORUS

BRIDGE
In Struggle Town they salute the flag,
Strut the stage, back-slap and brag.
Tell everybody there is nothing to fear,
But look around – Struggle Town is here!
Struggle Town is here!

[ INSTRUMENTAL BREAK ]

CHORUS
I want to tell you it’s a real hard sound,
When they drag those bodies across the ground.
But you don’t want to know what’s going down
In Struggle Town...

FINAL CHORUS
I want to tell you it’s a real hard sound,
When they drag those bodies across the ground.
But you don’t want to know what’s going down
In Struggle Town. Yes, in Struggle Town...
That’s right - Struggle Town...
Right here in Struggle Town.
