Don't Sell Us Pipe Dreams:
What the judges said...

In 1998, Jim entered Don't Sell Us Pipe Dreams in the 'Working Life' section of the Victor Harbor Songwriting Event (Victor Harbor being a seaside town an hour or so from Adelaide). Three judges had the onerous task of listening to around 30 songs performed live in front of fellow contestants, and audience alike. The three judges, all musicians, songwriters, or music industry professionals, were Don Grieve, Helen Wright, and Frank Jones. Without embarrassing the people concerned, here are the un-attributed comments as written on the feedback sheets.

JUDGE #1
Music:
Simple, but works really well
Lyrics: Strong metre in the "chorus" sections. Nice structure with the longer note on the third line.
Other Comments: Cheers!

JUDGE #2
Music:
Melody a little tedious
Lyrics:
Lyrics OK
Other Comments:

JUDGE #3
Music:
Works well
Lyrics:
Nice turns of phrase - great
Other Comments:
A true story - seldom told. Good on you Jim - keep up the great writing!
