Jim's Note: Ending a relationship is guaranteed to provide any songwriter with enough material to fill several notebooks.

This is one I wrote, following just such a break-up.

It has what must be one of the longest 'middle eights' I've ever heard. It just goes on, and on, and on. I always enjoy singing this extended bridge when I get to it in the song.

The other unusual thing about the structure of this song is that there is no chorus, as such. However, if you look at the Chord Chart you will see an extended ending to the song, which also goes on, and on, and on.

I Call Your Name

I go to sleep, I wake alone,
I hear your voice, but you’re not home.
I laugh and smile, like I don’t care,
I call your name, but you’re not there.

At night I cook, I eat for two,
My body aches, what can I do?
I dream of what can never be,
I loved you but you still left me.

You wrote a note, but I don’t know,
Forget the past, and let it go?
Still I remember, though I try,
I cannot help but wonder, Why?

The things I feel are deep inside,
They tell a truth, I try to hide.
My love for you, goes on and on,
It hurts so much, I wrote this song.

BRIDGE:
The signs you left are with me still, A dying rose up on the hill;
An empty bottle of shampoo; I love you so, what can I do?
Your toothbrush and a statuette; Your cards and letters; cigarettes;
A love song I no longer sing; And in my hand, a broken ring.
I wake up tired, walk into walls, Outside the window, thunder squalls.
You know I miss your flashing smile, And yes, I miss you all the while,
I look into your sky blue eyes, and once again I’m hypnotised,
Yes, I still miss your funny laugh, And sleep with your old photograph.

I go to sleep, I wake alone,
I hear your voice, but you’re not home.
I laugh and smile, like I don’t care,
I call your name, but you’re not there.
I call your name, but you’re not there.
(Repeat till end)
