Jim's Note: Written in response to a short residency I once had in a well known city venue. It had the potential to be quite soul destroying, but thankfully, after four weeks the owners didn't ask me back! At least I got this song out of it, so the experience wasn't totally wasted.

At the time, I also started writing a song which began: This is a song for the drunk at the bar/who wants me to sing and play my guitar...

The sad thing was, the drunk at the bar was a woman in her thirties, who would come in straight after work, sit in 'her seat' at the bar, and slowly but steadily get well and truly drunk.

Some people want to remember;
Some people want to forget,
Everyone wants to be happy they say,
But we’re not even close to that yet.
Some people just want to listen;
Some people just want to sin,
The man at the front wants, ‘American Pie’,
And he’s getting under my skin.

CHORUS
Yes, Some people think it is easy,
To stand on a stage under lights,
Trying to break through the boredom,
Turning the day into night.
Trying to make a connection,
Following every sign,
Hoping the songs they remember tonight,
The moment I finish are mine.

Some people think they are better, (they are!);
Some people know they are worse,
But that won’t stop them singing off key,
Or singing the wrong bloody verse!
Some people say, Let’s go home, for godsake!
Some people say, Let’s join in!
The man at the front shouts, ‘American Pie’,
And I’m getting tired of him!

CHORUS [and Break]

REPEAT CHORUS
