Jim's Note: The birth of
a song remains endlessly fascinating to me, and the birth of this song is
no exception.
I had gone to see the
movie, The Mummy Returns, which was a sequel to The Mummy
(funny about that).
This song was triggered
by a scene in the movie which would take me far too long to explain here.
Ask me about it sometime.
Better still, hire the movie, and try and work out which scene triggered
this song!

Be Your
Alibi

I see the way you smile at him,
The way you laugh and call out, Jim!
The gentle touch; the passing glance;
The way he pulls you up to dance.
I watch him press you to his side,
I see the blush you try to hide.
The flick of hair; the shining eyes;
The way he holds you like a prize.
CHORUS
And so I watch you from afar,
I want so, to be where you are.
To sing your song, and hear you sigh,
To dream – and be your alibi.
I turn aside; I shake my head;
I watch you go; the signs are read.
A silly joke; your foolish grin;
He kisses you and, you tickle him.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
I feel the air move as you pass,
I watch you share a parting glass.
No final wave; no backward look;
You leave me twisting on my hook.
BREAK & CHORUS [2x]
CODA
To dream – and be your alibi.
