Life’s Too
Short (and getting shorter)
© 1998, Jim Lesses. All Rights
Reserved.
You wake up in the morning
crying,
Another hundred thousand dying,
But everyone has been replaced,
by three or four in their old space, an’
All around you men are bleeding;
The rich get rich, and the poor need feeding,
You do your best but not enough and,
Yes you know it’s getting tougher.
CHORUS
Life’s too short and getting shorter,
Dreams are never made to order,
It’s up to you, and up to us an’
Stop your fighting and your fussing.
Waiting for your ship to come in,
The crazy captain’s eyes are grinning,
He knows beggars can’t be choosers,
Most of us will end up losers.
But I believe we make our chances,
Some of us can lead the dances,
Leading others through the park,
and lighting candles in the dark.
Chorus
While critics write, an’ experts rumble,
You grab for gold but slip and tumble.
Get right up and try again, ‘cos,
After all we’re only men who
Do their best, do what they’re able,
And this is not a children’s fable,
There may not be a happy end,
But sometimes rules are made for bending.
Chorus
The world is not a perfect place,
an’ very few will win the race, but
Everyone has got a chance to,
Take their places in the dance.
Who says you have to be a loser?
It’s your life, so be a chooser,
Be the very best you can be,
aim for stars and maybe you’ll see…
Chorus
