Introducing Scarlett Cook
Let me tell you about my niece, Scarlett Cook.
Scarlett is the youngest of five children, and may be destined to out rock them all. At 23, Scarlett is developing into the kind of singer, musician, and performer I can only dream about being. A great pianist. A fearless singer and song writer. Scarlett is one of the most exciting and dynamic, young performers I've seen in a long time.
Scarlett is plowing her own row through the indie music scene, and a mighty hard row it is going to be. You see, Scarlett doesn't believe in American Idol, Australian Idol, or any one of the many other 'Idol' type shows that seem to be spreading like a virus across today's television programming.
The idea of writing a three minute pop song is anathema to Scarlett. Her 'idols' are Tool, Diamanda Galas, Opeth, Nirvana, and many other bands and individual performers who are also relentlessly finding their own audiences across the globe.
On Thursday, February 1, 2007, I filmed Scarlett at her gig at the Jade Monkey in Adelaide. I've now converted the film into bite sized individual songs, and uploaded them to Scarlett's YouTube page.
Of the eight songs she performed, my current favourite is 'A New Victim', which you can see and hear by clicking on the play button [>] on the clip below.
WARNING: This song uses the 'f_ _ _' word, and the 'motherf _ _ _' word. If you are offended by strong language, don't watch the following clip.
On the other hand, if you are not -- have a listen to Scarlett rip into those that would betray us; those who use and abuse us; and who abuse our trust -- whether 'friends', lovers, politicians, or others in positions of power.

The dead end is nigh,
So put away your knife.
You're no good at lying
So give up the facade
And all your f*****g whining.
